Yamadori Collecting Field Trip in Maine

Everyone that signs up will find something interesting to bring home. Experienced yamadori collectors will have an advantage in knowing what to look for, but will need patience, persistence, and a bit of luck to find something special. This trip is geared towards those newer to yamadori collecting and aftercare. It is a low-risk opportunity to learn from experienced collectors, to see and feel what it's like to dig a tree and keep it alive. So, when you go to collect that 300 year-old one-of-a-kind specimen, you have the experience and knowledge to succeed when it counts. In fact, experienced members eyeing a particular specimen somewhere else may consider using this as an opportunity to study and experiment with collecting a lower value specimen of the same species/genus. Of course, any experienced members willing to come just to share their knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

  • The club will NOT provide tools. Participants are encouraged to share.

  • Participants are responsible for potting their new trees (supplies like grow boxes and soil not provided). Participants are encouraged to do this at home the following day.

  • 1 tree per person (permission for additional trees available on request)

  • All participants are required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival. The Northeast Bonsai Association, event leadership, and the land owners assume no responsibility for personal injury, property damage, or accidents sustained during the trip.

  • Attendees participate at their own risk.
